A closer look

What is dileucine?

Dileucine is a dipeptide: two leucine amino acids bonded together. DL185 supplies L-leucyl-L-leucine monohydrate, with 2,000 mg in each four-capsule serve. Researchers have studied dileucine both as an acute dose and alongside a resistance-training programme.

The evidence

Peptide. Here's the research.

Both studies below used 2,000 mg of dileucine. One measured a short-term biological response, and the other followed a training programme over 10 weeks. These were ingredient studies, not clinical trials of the finished Athletech product; matching the dose alone does not establish product equivalence.

Training study · 10 weeks · 34 men

Studied during resistance training

In a randomised, double-blind trial, 34 resistance-trained men trained for 10 weeks while taking 2 g daily of dileucine, leucine or placebo. The dileucine group improved leg-press strength more than placebo and leg-press repetitions more than leucine. These were different comparisons; neither outcome significantly outperformed both alternatives.

What the study did not establish: It did not demonstrate additional lean-mass gains or superior bench-press results. Participants stopped creatine, so the study did not test an added benefit on top of a creatine stack.

The study used RAMPS™ dileucine monohydrate. Ingenious Ingredients funded the study, and author interests were disclosed. It did not test this finished product.

Acute study · single dose · 10 men

A short-term muscle-protein-synthesis study

In a randomised crossover trial, 10 healthy young men consumed a single 2 g dose of dileucine or leucine. At rest over three hours, the measured rate of muscle-protein synthesis was higher after dileucine than after leucine.

What the study did not establish: This was a short-term biological response, not a measure of muscle gained, long-term strength or recovery speed. It does not establish that dileucine replaces adequate protein or that this finished product produces the same response.

Ingenious Ingredients funded this ingredient study, and author patent interests were disclosed. It did not test this finished product.

The serving

What's in a serve?

Each four-capsule serve provides 2,000 mg DL185 dileucine (L-leucyl-L-leucine monohydrate). The bottle contains 112 capsules, or 28 serves. Check the bottle for the full ingredient and allergen information.

How to take it

On training days, take four capsules with water about 30 minutes before training. On rest days, take four capsules with a meal that contains protein. One bottle provides 28 days at this daily serving.

Use only as directed. Read the bottle label for complete product information.

Common questions

What is dileucine?

Dileucine is two leucine amino acids bonded together as a dipeptide.

How many serves are in the bottle?

At four capsules per serve, a bottle of 112 capsules contains 28 serves.

Can it replace my protein or amino supplements?

The ingredient research does not establish that dileucine replaces adequate protein or a complete amino-acid profile.

Can I take it with creatine?

Participants in the 10-week study stopped creatine, so that study did not test an added benefit from taking the two together. Check the bottle label for directions and suitability information.

What do the studies tell us?

One small study measured a short-term response; another followed resistance-trained men for 10 weeks. Neither tested this finished product. See the research section for the findings and limitations.
