A carbohydrate-and-electrolyte sports drink built on Suscarb™ HBCD. Athletech Hidden Edge is an intra-workout fuel powder made from Suscarb™ highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD), manufactured in New Zealand for Athletech. Each 25g serve provides 19.8g of carbohydrate from Suscarb HBCD plus a 925mg electrolyte blend — sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium — with 0.3g of sugars, no protein and no fat, in a Pineapple Ice flavour. One 1kg bag holds 40 full (25g) or 20 advanced (50g) serves.
Intra-workout fuel built on Suscarb HBCD
A carbohydrate-and-electrolyte training drink: Suscarb highly branched cyclic dextrin plus four electrolytes — with just 0.3g of sugars per 25g serve, and no protein or fat. Pineapple Ice flavour.
Carbohydrate and electrolytes, nothing extra
A single-purpose intra-workout fuel. Hidden Edge does one job: it delivers training carbohydrate and the main electrolytes lost in sweat, in a light Pineapple Ice drink. The carbohydrate is Suscarb HBCD — a highly branched cyclic dextrin — not free sugar, which is why a 25g serve carries 19.8g of carbohydrate but only 0.3g of sugars.
- 19.8g of carbohydrate per 25g serve — all from Suscarb HBCD, a highly branched cyclic dextrin; 39.6g in the 50g advanced serve.
- 925mg of electrolytes per serve — sodium 325mg, potassium 300mg, magnesium 150mg and calcium 150mg (1,850mg in the 50g serve).
- Just 0.3g of sugars per serve — the carbohydrate is HBCD, not added free sugar.
- No protein, no fat, no stimulants — carbohydrate and electrolytes only, at 337kJ (81 Cal) per 25g serve.
- Two doses from one bag — a 25g full serve or a 50g advanced serve; 40 / 20 serves per 1kg bag.
- No animal-derived ingredients — suits vegetarian and vegan diets.
- Manufactured in New Zealand from local and imported ingredients, for Athletech.
Why Suscarb HBCD
HBCD is a high-molecular-weight glucose polymer. Suscarb is a highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD) made from waxy maize starch. It has a large molecular weight but a very low osmolality — in published measurements a 10% HBCD solution sits near 9 mOsm/kg, far below glucose or standard maltodextrin at the same concentration [1]. A drink’s osmolality is one of the factors that affects how quickly it leaves the stomach.
- Low osmolality for its carbohydrate load — HBCD carries far less osmotic load than glucose or maltodextrin at the same concentration in published measurements [1].
- Studied for gastric emptying — in research on the HBCD ingredient class, HBCD-based drinks left the stomach faster than equivalent-concentration glucose solutions [1].
- Reported GI tolerability — HBCD research during cycling reported fewer gastrointestinal complaints than glucose-based drinks; individual response still varies [2].
Per serve, at a glance
Two serving sizes, every figure off the label. The 25g full serve suits most sessions; the 50g advanced serve doubles the carbohydrate and electrolytes for longer or hotter training. The complete Nutrition Information panel — per 25g, per 50g and per 100g — is in the Supplement Facts tab.
| Per serve | 25g full (1 scoop) | 50g advanced (2 scoops) |
|---|---|---|
| Energy | 337 kJ (81 Cal) | 674 kJ (161 Cal) |

| – sugars | 0.3 g | 0.6 g |
| Protein | 0 g | 0 g |
| Fat, total | 0 g | 0 g |
| Sodium | 325 mg | 650 mg |
| Potassium | 300 mg | 600 mg |
| Magnesium | 150 mg | 300 mg |
| Calcium | 150 mg | 300 mg |
A 925mg, four-mineral blend
Sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium. Each 25g serve carries 325mg sodium, 300mg potassium, 150mg magnesium and 150mg calcium — 925mg in total, the four electrolytes lost in sweat. The 50g advanced serve doubles every figure to 1,850mg. Sodium and potassium are the two lost in the largest amounts during exercise.
- Sodium 325mg per serve — this sits within American College of Sports Medicine guidance for fluid replacement during prolonged exercise [3].
- Magnesium 150mg per serve — 36–47% of the adult reference intake. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and to a normal energy-yielding metabolism.
- Calcium 150mg per serve — 15% of the adult reference intake. Calcium contributes to normal muscle function.
- Potassium 300mg per serve — one of the main electrolytes lost in sweat, included to round out the blend.
Mix, sip, train
- Full dose: mix 1 scoop (25g) into about 500ml of water, before or during training.
- Advanced dose: for longer or hotter sessions, use 2 scoops (50g) in about 750ml of water.
- Through endurance work: sip steadily. A common carbohydrate guideline for sessions over an hour is 30–60g per hour — adjust to your sport, intensity and the conditions.
- Mixes light and clear: shake or stir until dissolved. Best made fresh for each session.

No reviews yet — and we won’t invent any
This is a newly listed product, so there are no customer reviews to show. When verified buyers leave feedback it appears in the reviews panel further down the page — we don’t write our own. Until then, here is what we’ll stand on: every number on this page comes straight off the label, the full Nutrition Information panel is published in the Supplement Facts tab, and Hidden Edge is manufactured in New Zealand from local and imported ingredients.
Questions, answered
What is Suscarb HBCD?
Suscarb is a highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD) — a high-molecular-weight carbohydrate made from waxy maize starch. It digests to glucose like other starches, but carries a much lower osmolality than glucose or maltodextrin at the same concentration, which is one factor in how quickly a drink leaves the stomach [1].
What’s the difference between the full and advanced dose?
The full serve is 25g (one scoop); the advanced serve is 50g (two scoops). The full serve gives 19.8g of carbohydrate and 925mg of electrolytes; the advanced serve doubles both to 39.6g and 1,850mg. Use the full serve for most sessions and the advanced serve for longer or hotter training.
Does it have much sugar?
No — just 0.3g of sugars per 25g serve. Although a serve has 19.8g of carbohydrate, almost all of it is Suscarb HBCD, a complex carbohydrate rather than free sugar. The 0.3g of sugars comes from minor carbohydrates naturally present in the dextrin and from the flavour, not from added sugar.
What electrolytes are in it, and how much?
Four, totalling 925mg per 25g serve: sodium 325mg, potassium 300mg, magnesium 150mg and calcium 150mg. The 50g advanced serve doubles each to 1,850mg total. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and a normal energy-yielding metabolism; calcium contributes to normal muscle function.
Will it stop me cramping?
No drink can promise that. Exercise cramp has several causes, including muscle fatigue as well as fluid and electrolyte balance. Hidden Edge provides sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium — the electrolytes lost in sweat — and magnesium and calcium contribute to normal muscle function, but no drink can guarantee you won’t cramp.
Is it suitable for drug-tested athletes?
The ingredients — HBCD, the electrolyte minerals, pineapple flavour, citric acid, curcumin colour and sucralose — are not on the WADA 2026 Prohibited List. Because testing is strict-liability, athletes subject to testing should choose batch-tested products and check the current batch certificate for this specific product before competing.
