What you actually get

• 30 servings per bottle — 60 liquid capsules at 2 per serving. The manufacturer’s directions are two servings a day, so a bottle covers 15 days at that intake.
• 200 mg of paraxanthine per serving — that is 100 mg in each capsule, and 400 mg across a directed day at the stated limit of 4 capsules. This is a stimulant product, and it counts towards whatever else you drink or take.
• Seven ingredients, each at a printed amount — three rows sit at 200 mg, two at 100 mg, then 28 mg and 15 mg.
• Nothing hidden behind a group total — the panel prints two row-group headings and neither carries a total. Every row underneath them shows its own milligram figure.
• The coffee extract is decaffeinated — the panel prints “(decaffeinated)” on that row, and no caffeine row appears anywhere on the panel. The stimulant in this formula is the paraxanthine.

• A gelatin capsule — the shell is gelatin, so this is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.

What you are actually buying

A short, fully disclosed panel with a real stimulant dose. One serving is two liquid capsules, taken 30 to 60 minutes before each of your two main meals, and 60 capsules divides evenly into 30 of those servings. Seven ingredients are named, nothing sits behind a group total, and every figure quoted on this page can be checked against the label.

The front of this pack is written for the United States. New Zealand rules for dietary supplements are stricter than the United States rules this bottle was printed under. The front-of-pack wording is not repeated on this page and is not part of what we are telling you about the product.

The stimulant is paraxanthine, not caffeine. Paraxanthine is the main metabolite the human body produces from caffeine, and it is unfamiliar to most New Zealand shoppers. Read 200 mg a serving as a real stimulant dose, and count it the same way you would count a coffee.

Where the artwork and the panel differ, the panel wins. The Supplement Facts tab on this page holds real text rather than a picture of a label, so it can be searched, copied and read on a phone without pinching to zoom. It is the operative statement of what is in the capsule.

The seven ingredients, plainly

enfinity® (paraxanthine), 200 mg. The single most important number on this label, and the panel prints the brand name with a lower-case e. Two capsules carry 200 mg, so each capsule holds 100 mg. Paraxanthine is a stimulant — the main metabolite the human body produces from caffeine — so add it to any coffee, tea, cola or pre-workout you already have on the same day before you decide whether this fits your routine.

Medium chain triglycerides (MCT) oil, 200 mg. A fat source, and one of the three rows on this panel printed at 200 mg. It sits inside the 1 g of total fat the panel declares for a serving, alongside the sesame oil in the capsule fill.

Robusta coffee extract (C. canephora robusta, bean), 200 mg. Printed with three parentheticals on the panel, the third of which is “(decaffeinated)”. It is standardised for 45% chlorogenic acids, so 200 mg of extract supplies 90 mg of chlorogenic acids per serving. Because it is decaffeinated, it is not the stimulant here.

L-tyrosine, 100 mg. An amino acid, and one of the two rows printed at 100 mg. The panel prints a dagger rather than a percentage beside it, because no Daily Value has been established for it.

Choline bitartrate, 100 mg. A choline salt, and the source of the 40 mg of choline declared as a nutrient higher up the same panel at 7% of the United States Daily Value. The two rows are the same material counted twice on the label, not two separate additions.

aXivite® microencapsulated phenylcapsaicin, 28 mg. A branded, microencapsulated chilli-derived compound. The panel qualifies it as supplying 1% phenylcapsaicin, so 28 mg of the branded ingredient works out at 0.28 mg of phenylcapsaicin per serving. Microencapsulation is a coating process used on the raw material; it describes the format, not an outcome.

Grains of paradise extract (Aframomum melegueta, seed), 15 mg. A seed extract from a West African plant in the ginger family, and the smallest amount on the panel. No standardisation percentage and no extract ratio are printed beside it.

How to use it

1. Take two liquid capsules together — one serving is 2 liquid capsules.
2. Twice a day, before meals — the manufacturer’s directions say one serving 30 to 60 minutes before each of your two main meals.
3. Do not exceed 4 capsules in 24 hours — that limit is printed in the manufacturer’s directions.
4. Count your stimulants first — 200 mg of paraxanthine is already in each serving and 400 mg across a directed day, so add up your coffee, tea and any pre-workout before you take it, and take the second serving early enough that it does not sit on your evening.
5. Check the sesame before you open the bottle — the capsule fill uses sesame oil, so this is not a product to trial if sesame is on your avoid list.
6. Store it cool and dry — out of reach of children.
