Why a protein bite

Hitting a protein target between meals is the hard part. When you are busy or on the road, the easy snacks are usually the sugary ones, and a full shake or meal is not always practical. A small, portable protein snack closes that gap without much sugar.

Each bite is built around premium whey. The centre uses a New Zealand whey and milk protein blend — whey protein concentrate, milk protein concentrate and whey protein isolate — to put 5.6–5.9g of protein into a single 15g bite. That is over a third protein by weight, with just 1.8g of sugar.

The numbers are on the label. 231–234 kJ (about 56 calories), 1.8g sugar and 0g gluten per bite, depending on flavour — no fillers and no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. The full panel is on the Nutrition tab.

Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle as part of a balanced diet, and a higher-protein snack helps you feel satisfied for longer — handy around training, work or a busy afternoon.

  3. On the go. Keep a bag in the car, desk drawer, gym bag or lunchbox; store in a cool, dry place.

Plenty of people keep these alongside a whey or plant protein for shakes, and a creatine for training. They also make an easy higher-protein swap for the usual afternoon chocolate or muesli bar.

FAQ

How much protein is in each bite?

Each 15g bite contains 5.6–5.9g of premium whey protein, depending on the flavour — that is over a third protein by weight. It comes from a New Zealand whey and milk protein blend of whey protein concentrate, milk protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. Full numbers are on the Nutrition tab.

How much sugar do they have?

Less than 2g of sugar per bite — 1.8g in a 15g bite across the flavours we have panels for. Each bite is around 56 calories (231–234 kJ) with about 3g of carbohydrate, so it is a lighter, lower-sugar option than most chocolate or muesli bars.

Do these contain dairy, or are they vegan?

They contain dairy. The protein comes from whey and milk, so the bites CONTAIN MILK and are not dairy-free and not vegan. They also CONTAIN SOY, and may contain traces of almonds, cashews and lupin. If you avoid milk or soy, this product is not suitable for you.

Are they gluten free?

Yes. The nutrition panel lists 0g gluten, and the bites are made with no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. They do contain milk and soy and may contain almonds, cashews and lupin, so they are gluten-free but not free from those allergens.

What flavours are there?

Six flavours: Chocolate Brownie, Vanilla Bean, Raspberry White Chocolate, Pineapple, Orange Choc and Strawberry White Choc. Each has a soft flavoured centre and a light chocolate coating. Choose your flavour from the options above; protein and sugar are very similar across the range.

When is the best time to eat them?

Whenever you want a protein snack — between meals to stay satisfied, before or after training as a quick top-up, or in a lunchbox instead of a sugary bar. They are a food, not a meal replacement. Keep the bag in a cool, dry place and reseal after opening.

About these numbers

  1. Nutrition, ingredient and allergen values: Nothing Naughty's on-pack panels (Pineapple, Chocolate Brownie, Raspberry White Chocolate and Vanilla Bean), cross-checked at nothingnaughty.kiwi.nz. Ranges reflect variation across flavours; values may change on reformulation.
  2. The 5 Health Star Rating is the manufacturer's front-of-pack rating. The protein–muscle statement is a general relationship for protein in a food that is a good source of protein.

Note: The reference panel below is the Raspberry White Chocolate flavour. Protein and energy vary slightly by flavour (see the by-flavour table). Values may change when the manufacturer updates a recipe.
